Archibald Knox
Archibald Knox (1864 - 1933), born in the Isle of Man, was
a prolific designer for Liberty and the major influence behind
the Celtic Revival at the turn of the century.
It was whilst teaching on the Isle of Man that Knox began
working for M.H.Baillie Scott - a Douglas based designer/architect,
who designed for Liberty - and this connection with Baillie
Scott led to Knox's long association with Liberty.
Knox drew his inspirations from historical sources and his
designs are imaginative and unusual in their colouring. His
flair, grace and elegance are apparent in designs for silver,
pewter, jewellery, fabrics, carpets and furniture.
These designs are copied from original designs held in the
archives of the Manx Museum and National Trust. The designs,
dating from 1897 and until now never commercially reproduced,
are available in furnishing fabrics, wallpapers, borders and
matched dragged wallpapers.
