Description: This 1922 house in a small North Carolina town is the perfect entry level or retirement home. Extensive restorations were done in the last 12 months, including an all new kitchen and refinished floors.
The following work was recently done: completely new kitchen in 2007, including new cabinets, new counters, new ceramic tile floor, new wainscotting and wallpaper, new oven, new dishwasher, 2003 refrigerator, and new electrical and plumbing. The washer and dryer are located in an alcove off of the kitchen, and can stay or go. The work on the kitchen is not entirely done, which is why no photo is included yet.
The bathroom also has a new ceramic tile floor and new wainscotting (2007). It also has new plumbing with a new shower attachment on the original claw foot tub.
The rest of the floors in the house are all natural wood (oak and pine), and were all refinished during 2007. There are four fireplaces with their original mantels. All ceilings are ten feet high, and every room except the kitchen has crown molding. Doors and windows have six inch wide molding. Almost all windows have been replaced and are double paned. The square footage (1,600) is approximate.
The gas furnace is newer (2005) and the electricity was upgraded with a new breaker box in 2007. The plumbing was completely redone in 2007. There is a window unit air conditioner.
The large back yard has a detached garage, which is approximately 25 years old. There are large pecan and shade trees. The driveway is shared access with one neighbor, and is partially paved.
Salisbury, NC is a town of 25,000, and is nicely located in the middle of Charlotte, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem, about 50 minutes from each. This makes it very convenient for shopping and sporting and arts events. There are two hospitals in town, and two four-year colleges. Salisbury has a historic downtown, and is second only to Savannah, Georgia in the number of historic districts. This house is in one, and is eligible for owner grants for exterior work to the house. The neighborhood is predominately owner occupied and is comprised of period houses. It is a five block walk to downtown.
