Description:
Lakeport Company is excited to have you see our newly constructed Arts and Crafts style house. This home design was featured in Sarah Susanka's book, "The Not So Big House: A Blueprint for the Way We Really Live". The "Not So Big House" philosophy values quality over mass production quantity. The architect-designed Arts and Crafts house is ideal for entertaining with its many outdoor and interior gathering spaces. The house has genuine continuity of character on all sides. This three-dimensional house with generous two-foot eaves and seasonal solar orientation optimization is intended to be viewed, not just two dimensionally from the front, consequently this house is well sited on the corner lot. The large overhangs block out the high summer sun and help to keep the house cool, but let in the low winter sun to brighten the winter months. Arroyo's Berkley style Arts and Crafts natural copper with gold white iridescent glass lanterns bathe the exterior in a warm glow in the evening. Approaching Lakeport's 6236 Bald Eagle Road home in the Pheasant Creek subdivision, Village of Mt. Pleasant, Wisconsin with Roche ford handmade glazed terra cotta address tiles you observe its many elements: Shingled gables with Clear Vertical Grain Western Red Cedar siding and trim in a natural finish; Eight large gables and timber frame elements; Steeply pitched 14:12 hand-framed roof with its intersecting roof ridges and sweeping curve at the front porch reaching out to the site; Eyebrow window dormer; Hartford green window frames; Halquist Stone's Chilton Brown Weatheredge and Lannon Splitface natural stone and custom-curved honed Indiana limestone and cedar continuous water table band, all make for a memorable image of a sheltering home. The entire grounds, 0.42 of an acre, lot size 110' by 150', 16,589 s.f. are landscaped with new sod, plant material and a lawn irrigation system. A concrete side-drive leads into a spacious 31' x 24', drywalled garage with two custom oversize 9' x 8' insulated wood doors with true divided glass lites and operators. The garage is set apart from the main house making a connecting transitional space in-between creating an interesting exterior spatial composition. Surrounding the house are outdoor rooms of Brazilian Tigerwood-Astronium hardwood decking, harvested from sustainable forests, extremely dense and extraordinarily strong with a concealed stainless steel fastener system. The covered entry porch provides shelter from the weather on the east with its heavy cedar timber frame elements and tongue and groove cedar ceiling. The 1,100 s.f. plus of porch continues and wraps around the south elevation to a semi-circle front terrace conveniently available for entertaining through the Pella Kitchen door. The porch then continues to the enclosed Screened Porch, which is thoroughly incorporated into the house architecture. The Screen Porch with tongue and groove hardwood floor and cedar ceiling and Canyon View solid brass honey opalescent ceiling light fixture on the sunset west of the house is a wonderful addition to the living space. It is an outdoor room, connected to nature but protected from direct sun and bugs. There is another deck again to the north with a curved semi-circle design, accessed from the Dining Room via Pella French doors with "Top Rowe" grille pattern. You can follow the sun or find shade for comfort and enjoyment on the beautiful decks and screen porch of this house. The welcoming entry-sequence to the home starts as you progress up the sidewalk and wide stair to the sizeable covered porch. The porch provides a place to stand, where the house receives you and if it's raining you won't get wet. The gabled roof with its shed roof bump-out rising high above the front porch roof centers the entry axis below. The focal point below is a beautiful round-top casement window that foreshadows the Entry Foyer and Hall interior axial view of a large arch head divided lite Dining Room window, which engages you and draws you to the light. The curved theme appears outside and throughout the house unifying the home design. As you walk up the exterior stairs and enter the wide Simpson wood craftsman Valencia front entry door with green aluminum clad frame, European Hoppe multi-point locking hardware and leaded glass, the beautiful Italian Floor Gres porcelain tile "Tracks" floor with it's precision ?" grout joints welcomes you into the spacious Foyer and Hall with wall sconces with sandblasted frosted glass, a grand Canadian maple stair with its curved landing platform, a place to pause, large box newel posts, shaped solid handrails, square balusters and embedded posts at the second floor. The commercial grade tile provides the excitement of a slate appearance without the imperfections. A Powder Room with Kohler Serif pedestal sink and Revival brushed nickel faucet is conveniently located off the hallway. Kohler toilet accessories matching their faucets are used throughout the home. Further on in the hallway pair of nine-lite Simpson French doors with bevel glass open to a Study with custom maple casework bookshelves. The Study with its windows provides a peaceful quiet place to escape the noise and distractions of everyday life. Interior doors are Simpson Shaker style stained Western Hemlock from the northwest McCleary, Washington hung on ball bearing hinges with Arts and Crafts brushed nickel lever handle hardware. The stained solid wood 1" x 4" door and window straight and specially made curved casings and window head with backband detail, stool with apron and 1" x 6" base trim with its plinth blocks are Pacific Coast Hemlock, expressly brought in for this project, in the craftsman style of simple clean lines, stand cleanly on the walls to be appreciated. Natural wood trim demands careful craftsmanship as exemplified by our excellent finish trim carpenters work. Next is the Dining Room with a pair of "Top Row" mullioned French doors leading to the rear deck. A raised-hearth wood-burning fireplace graces the adjoining Living Room with floor to ceiling artisan-crafted Country Ledgestone dry-laid stonework and a heavy timber white ash mantle highlighted by recessed pinhole slot halogen accent lighting. The Living Room is differentiated from the Kitchen/Gathering Area by substantial square wood columns integrated into low height partitions with niches and a wide sculptural arch and flat soffit. It continues in a band from distinctive small rectangular windows at the front and rear of the house accented with down-lighting and solid clear birch hardwood flooring providing a psychological distance from the Living Room to the Kitchen. In the great light filled 18' x 15' Kitchen and Gathering Space, with beautiful transom divided light windows and cherry shaker style cabinetry is a large Giallo granite-covered island that curves out to make eating room or workspace to create those cookies the family loves. Kohler's Smart Divide Langlade low profile double basin divider enamel cast-iron sink with a simple clean design brushed nickel Forte single-control pullout faucet is located in the island. There is an InSinkErator disposal and top of the line Whirlpool Gold series, Quiet Partner III, Energy Star, stainless steel dishwasher. The cherry Prestige cabinetry includes a tall panty cabinet; deep pull out pan drawers; lots of rollout trays; pullout recycling and waste bin; baking sheet cabinet and cookbook shelves. Above the Whirlpool Gold series ceramic cooktop range with Keep Warm 5th element is a Euro chimney style Italian Sirius S.S. kitchen exhaust hood. The latest Whirlpool Gold series side-by-side S.S. refrigerator with In-Door ice and water with Fast Measured Metered Fill completes the top of the line kitchen appliances. The floor treatment is Muskoka's ¾" x 3 ¼" tongue and groove solid-hardwood pre-finished maple with a twenty-five year manufacturer's warranty. The Breakfast area continues with the Kitchen transom windows, which surround it. Is a great space to bring the family together for dining with a beautifully crafted five light satin nickel pendant Oak Park style light fixture. The Master Bedroom suite has a vaulted ceiling and two very large walk-in closets on either side of the room with Elfa Swedish modular closet storage systems in each. The focal point of the room is a magnificent composite arch window with a southern exposure to a park. In the Master Bath the luxurious ceramic and glass trimmed tiled spa walk-in shower has Kohler Revival shower with three-way invigorating body-sprays and slide-bar hand-shower along with a built-in bench.
