Windrush. This William Morris design of 1883 was originally printed by the banks of the River Wandle, in Morris' newly opened workshop, and was named after another river, the Windrush in Oxfordshire.
The corncockle, featured in this design of 1883, is now a rare sight in the English countryside. In Morris' day this simple wildflower flourished in the cornfields during the summer months.
A rich formal design, produced in 1888, Autumn Flowers reflects Morris' interest in the traditional patterns of antique woven silks and velvets.
Designed by Morris in 1885, Garden Tulip displays Morris' favourite colours, including madder red and deep indigo, of which he wrote, 'of blues there is only one real dye, indigo'.
This exuberant pattern of stylized dog roses and pinks, flowers that were admired in English gardens of the period, was designed by Morris in 1890.
In 1889 Morris' assistant J.H. Dearle produced Golden Lily, which has remained one of Morris & Co's most enduring designs.
The meandering form of Tulip and Willow reflects the naturalistic style developed by Morris in the 1870s. Morris loved the willow, and willow branches appeared in several of his designs.
