THE SOUL OF ARCHIBALD KNOX
Archibald Knox is one of the most gifted, and under-appreciated, British
designers of the last century. Although he is generally recognized as the creative force
behind the vastly successful Celtic Revival style in silver, pewter, fabrics, ceramics, and
jewelry marketed by Liberty & Co. at the turn of the century, and as one of Britain's great
early modernist designers, a more complete picture of Knox the artist has yet to emerge.
This present volume, the culmination of more than ten years of passionate involvement
with Knox's life and work, is my attempt to fill in this important gap - to establish Knox's
central role in the evolution of British and Modern design, and to shed some light on the
influences that shaped his life and his career.
